According to the Department’s Director, Tran Duc Hai, the department has finalized a report on a CNN tourism promotion program which ran in 2017 and a collaboration plan in 2018. It has also worked with CNN on the cooperation program for the 2019-2021 period, which is considered as an effective method of popularizing the city as a world class destination.
This year the capital city aims to receive 25.4 million tourists, including 5.5 million foreigners, said Mr Hai.
Accordingly, from the early days of this year the city has worked to improve the quality of infrastructure, services and tourism products, diversify investment methods to draw more capital for tourism development, and facilitated the operations of travel operators.
Thanks to taking the appropriate measures, the number of tourist arrivals to the capital city have been higher than last year and exceed this year’s plan. Tourist arrivals to Hanoi from the beginning of the year are estimated at nearly 20 million (up 9.2% against the same period last year), including more than 4.3 million foreign visitors (up 20%). Foreign visitors to the capital city made up nearly 40% of the total arriving in the country.
Foreign visitors to Hanoi have arrived from nearly 190 countries and territories, many from markets with high spending capacities such as Western Europe, Australia, North America, Eastern Europe and Northeast Asia. Countries closer to home, including China, the Republic of Korea and Japan remained the top markets with the highest number of visitors to Vietnam.
