A suicide attack on a police headquarters in central Iraq killed at least 21 officers and wounded 60 other people on May 5, health officials said.

Most of the injured were police, according to Iraq's Interior Ministry.

The suicide car bombing took place in Hilla during a handover between the overnight and morning shifts, according to the ministry.

The attack bears the hallmark of al Qaeda in Iraq, according to officials, who said they didn't know whether it was in retaliation for the killing of terror leader Osama bin Laden.

Hilla is in Babel province, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of Baghdad.
