Traffic accidents claim over 100 lives during National Day holiday

(VOV) - As many as 186 traffic accidents took place between August 30 and September 2 (National Day), resulting in 114 deaths and 145 injuries, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety.

On National Day alone, 63 traffic accidents were recorded across the country, leaving 48 dead and 75 injured.

Notably, a tragic accident happened in the northern mountain province of Lao Cai on September 1, killing 12 people on a sleeper bus.

The bus, with 53 people on board, plunged into a 200-metre ravine at about 7pm in Tong Sanh Village, Bat Xat District. Eleven passengers were killed at the scene and another died on the way to a hospital nearby.

Meanwhile, a coach crashed into a car on National Highway 5 on September 2 in the northern province of Hung Yen, leaving three people dead. Among the deaths was Lieutenant-General Nguyen Xuan Tu, Deputy Director of the Public Security Ministry's General Department of Force Build-Up.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who is also head of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, asked relevant agencies to urgently identify causes of these accidents and work out solutions to prevent similar accidents in the future.
