Mexico keen to bolster ties with Vietnam

(VOV) - Mexico will speed up the signing of an agreement on establishing a joint committee for bilateral trade and industry cooperation between Mexico and Vietnam. 

Mexican Minister of Economics Ildefondso Guajardo Villarreal told Vietnam Ambassador to Mexico Le Linh Lan at a February 3 meeting.

He said his nation pledged to work together with the Vietnam Embassy to promote its economic, trade and cultural links with Vietnam and prepare for the 40th founding anniversary of the diplomatic relations in 2015. 

He applauded Vietnam’s achievements over recent years as well as its contributions to Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement negotiations.

For her part, the Vietnamese diplomat stressed the need for high-level exchanges between the two countries to foster multi-sector cooperation, especially in economics and trade. 

She suggested the ministry’s Trade Promotions Agency (ProMexico) set up an office in Hanoi to boost their trade and investment.

Trade between Vietnam and Mexico reached at US$2.17 billion in 2014, up 34% over a year earlier.
