|The Vietnamese women’s football team at SEA Games 30
In total 25 footballers have been selected to join the training camp under the leadership of head coach Mai Duc Chung. Of the squad, 16 footballers are members of the team that won the gold medal in the women’s football event at the SEA Games 30.
A number of familiar names that competed in the SEA Games 30 such as Huynh Nhu, Hai Yen, Tuyet Dung, Chuong Thi Kieu, and Hoang Thi Loan will represent their country once more in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers.
The team are due to hold their training camp at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre in Hung Yen province until December 31.
Following this, the team will take part in special physical training in Quang Ninh province from January 2 to 9.
Before the team travel to the Republic of Korea (RoK) the squad will be trimmed down to 23 members ahead of the third qualifying round of Tokyo 2020 Olympics which are set to get underway between February 3 and 9.
For the fixtures, Vietnam have been placed in Group A along with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Myanmar, and the host nation, the RoK. All of their group stage matches are set to take place in Jeju, the RoK.
Meanwhile Group B is made up of Australia, China, Thailand, and Taiwan (China), with fixtures taking place in Wuhan, China.
Teams that finish in first and second place in each group will go on to compete in a play-off sometime between March 6 and 11 with the two winning teams advancing to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan.
