The nation’s three golds came in the female category. Tong Thai Hoang An finished with eight points from nine matches and went on to win a gold in the G8 (under eight-years-old) category.
Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong and Nguyen Hong Anh bagged two gold medals in the G16 (under 16-years-old) and G18 (under 18-years-old) categories.
Vietnam’s four silver medals went to Le Thai Hoang Anh in the G8 category, Nguyen Linh Dan in the G12 category, Nguyen Manh Duc in the G8 category, and Tran Dang Minh Quang in the G14 (under 14-years-old) category.
Nguyen Quoc Hy, in the G14 category, and Nguyen Mai Chi, in the G8 category, were each awarded a bronze medal.
The team from Kazakhstan ranked second in the medal tally after finishing with three golds and one silver. They were followed by the Indian team with two golds, four silvers, and two bronze medals, and the Chinese team who finished with a single gold medal.
The Asian Youth Chess Championships 2019 were held in Sri Lanka between April 3 and 9 and saw the participation of 571 chess players from 23 countries. In total, Vietnam sent 36 players to the tournament, whilst host nation Sri Lanka sent 277 players whilst India had 75 players present at the competition.
