Vietnamese players progress to semi-finals of Junior Davis Cup

VOV.VN - Vietnamese teams enjoyed a number of impressive results on the fourth day of the Junior Davis Cup and the Junior Fed Cup Asia-Oceania Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia, on February 27.

The Junior Davis Cup saw several Vietnamese youngsters face opponents from Singapore, with Nguyen Quang Vinh defeating Kai En Matthew Lim 6-1, 6-1, whilst Truong Vinh Hien suffered a defeated at the hands of Tze En Gareth Ong 6-2, 6-4.

The doubles match saw both local players team up as Nguyen Quang Vinh and Truong Vinh Hien went on to record a comfortable victory over Matthew Wen Jun Johnstone and Tze En Gareth Ong 7-5, 6-2.

With the closure of the tournament’s fourth day, the Vietnamese male team ultimately recorded a 2-1 victory over their Singaporean rivals.

This win see will Vietnam take on Malaysia in the semi-final round.

Elsewhere in matches played during the Junior Fed Cup, the Vietnamese female team lost to the Philippines 2-0.

Ho Thi Truc Tam suffered a setback in her game against Alexa Joy Milliam by losing 6-1, 6-1, whilst Jenaila Rose Prulla gained a victory over Sophia Huynh Tran Ngoc Nhi 6-4, 6-0.

As a result, the nation will take on Mongolia in the third-place competition. The winner of that tie will progress to the Junior Fed Cup’s qualifying round in Kuching, Malaysia, which will take place from April 5 to 10.
