Vietnamese players enjoy consecutive wins on third day of Junior Davis Cup

VOV.VN - A number of talented young Vietnamese tennis players put on some great performances during the third day of the Junior Davis Cup and the Junior Fed Cup Asia-Oceania Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia, on February 26.

In the Junior Fed Cup, Sophia Huynh Tran Ngoc Nhi led the nation to victory the day the by recording a win over Claire Kye Sun Chan of Singapore 7-5 and 6-3.

Elsewhere, Nguyen Minh Thuy Hang couldn’t follow in Sophia’s success as she lost out to Lerr Min Lim 6-2 over two sets.

It was a similar story in the doubles match as Lerr Min Lim and Michelle Si Ting Yeo of Singapore beat Vietnamese pair Sophia and Truc Tam 6-3 and 7-5.

With the third day of the competition coming to a close, the Vietnamese female team dropped to second position in Group B, setting up a clash with the Philippines in the next round after they won Group A.

During matches played in the Junior Davis Cup, Nguyen Quang Vinh was able to beat Angil Jay Balaoing of the Philippines 6-4 in the first set, but subsequently suffered 6-4 and 6-4 defeats in the other sets.

There were also losses for the singles Vietnamese team as Pham Hoang Hieu lost 6-4 and 6-4 to Joewyn Rey Pascua.

In the doubles, Nguyen Quang Vinh and Truong Vinh Hien enjoyed a victory over Joewyn Rey Pascua and Rupert Ohrelle Tortal of the Philippines 6-3 and 6-3.

As a result, the Vietnamese male team are ranked second in Group C and are set to take on their Singaporean rivals next.
