After displaying strong skills, Vietnam were able to open the scoring in the 14th minute. Despite the early lead, Japan immediately hit back with an equaliser with Matsukawa scoring from a spectacular shot.
Vietnam conceded a second goal only a few minutes later with the game’s momentum switching to the Japanese team.
During the second half, Japan stamped their authority on the game but were unable to enjoy another breakthrough. The match concluded with a 2-1 win for Japan.
With the result, Japan finished first while Vietnam finished in second in Group C. The Vietnamese team will play Indonesia, who came first in Group D, in the semi-finals on June 18.
