Currently, playing his trade for Dutch side SC Heerenveen, Van Hau has been named among the nine nominees to make the list which has been created to celebrate the 66th founding anniversary of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The list of Asian defenders consists of three leading categories, including legends, current heroes, and stars of the future, with enthusiastic fans able to vote for their leading three defenders through the various social networks of Fox Sports Asia.
Indeed, the website described Van Hau as an outstanding player who had greatly contributed to the recent achievements of the Vietnamese national team at various levels, including claiming the runner-up spot at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, finishing as champions at the AFF Cup 2018, and winning the SEA Games 2019.
Elsewhere in the list, Mehdi Mahdavikia, Sun Jihai, and Hong Myung Bo have been included as legends following the trio’s successful careers, respectively.
Listed as current heroes, Theerathon Bunmathan, Aidil Zafuan, Safuwan Baharudin, and Hansamu Yama are all familiar names in Asian football.
At present, Van Hau is joined by Japanese player Maya Yoshida of Italian side Sampdoria FC as the only other Asian player on the list to represent a European club side.
