Nation’s badminton players bow out of Vietnam International Challenge

VOV.VN -A host of Vietnamese badminton players across different categories have been eliminated from the Ciputra Hanoi-Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge 2019 which is underway at the Tay Ho district gymnasium.

In the men’s singles event, Nguyen Tien Minh (World No.64), who was seeded No.3 for the tournament, was defeated 1-2 by Lee Chia Hao of Taiwan (World No.138) in the second round.

Meamwhile, Pham Cao Cuong (World No.89), the Vietnamese No.8 seed, lost out to Nugraha of Indonesia (World No.168).

During the women’s singles event, No 2 seed Nguyen Thuy Linh (World No.60) failed to win against Se Young An of the Republic of Korea (World No.93) in her second round match while Vu Thi Trang (World No.64) was beaten by Hirari Mizui of Japan (World No.156).

In doubles event, Vietnamese pair Do Tuan Duc and Pham Nhu Thao (World No. 43) were comprehensively beaten by Malaysian pair Man Wei Chong and Tan Pearly Koong Le (World No.802).

The Vietnam International Challenge has attracted the participation of 292 players from 18 countries and territories and will run until Apirl 14. The nation’s represented at the event include Australia, Canada, China, the UK, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Iran, the Republic of Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the US, Mauritius, and host nation Vietnam.

The event is currently in its twelth year and was announced as an official tournament by the Badminton World Federation last year.
