Nam dominated the match, beating the 18-year-old 6-0, 6-3 in 48 minutes. He will meet Edward Bourchier of Australia, world No 1,538, in the second round.
In the men’s doubles, Nam and Nguyen Hoang Thien, No 3 seeds, defeated Indian pair Ankit Chopra and Sidharth Rawat 6-0, 6-3 to enter the quarter-finals.
Nam also achieved the best ranking of his career on June 19, making Vietnamese tennis history at 529th in the world. He made it to the semifinals of the men’s singles of the Singapore F3 Futures tennis tournament a week ago.
