During the first match which took place on April 1, Liem (Elo rating 2711) beat his female opponent Blagojevic of Serbia (Elo rating 2216) after 28 moves. Liem gained an additional Elo point as a result of his victory.
The win will give him the chance to hold the white pawn during his next match against Johannes Haug of Norway (Elo rating 2424).
Carrying on the good performances, Anh Khoi (Elo rating 2481), who is seeking a second Grandmaster title, enjoyed a victory over Parthasarathy of India (Elo rating 1989) after 50 moves.
The 17-year-old chess player will next face off against Jain Jeet of India (Elo rating 2219) in the second match.
The nine-day tournament has drawn the participation of 163 chess players from around the world, including 35 grandmasters.
Le Quang Liem is the only Super Grandmaster competing at the event.
