Tien Dung received a yellow card for the incident while Stipe Plazibat slotted home from the spot for the home side.
Ho Chin Minh City FC endured a nervy end to the fixture when Stipe Plazibat scored again just four minutes later, although the away team ultimately managed to see out the tie 3-2.
