Gymnast secures nation’s 67th gold medal at SEA Games 30

VOV.VN - Talented Vietnamese gymnast Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi won a gold medal in the women’s individual category in the gymnastics-aerobic event at the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019 in the Philippines on December 9 to boost the nation’s total haul of gold medals to 67.

Vietnamese gymnast Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi won a gold medal in the women’s individual category.

Thuy Vi’s gold came after the she successfully secured 21.2 points to finish first in the women’s individual category during the gymnastics-aerobic event.

The talented gymnast won the gold after finishing above the representatives from Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, who finished on 20.325, 18.799, and 18.550 points, respectively.

Elsewhere, athlete Nguyen Van Lai won a silver medal after a strong performance in the men’s 5,000 metre event. Van Lai’s second place finish represented the nation’s first medal on December 9.

Following this, Vietnamese athletes were able to clinch two more silver medals on the morning of December 9, including Vo Xuan Vinh in the men’s 20km event, and trio Nguyen Van Day, Nguyen Tien Cuong, and Thanh Phi Hung in the archery event.

As of mid-day on December 9, the Vietnamese sporting delegation were ranked second in the competition’s medal table with 67 gold, 62 silver, and 80 bronze medals.
