After suffering a defeat at the hands of Indonesia in their first match of the tournament, Vietnam’s U15 squad were determined to beat the Philippines in order to have a chance at progressing to the semifinals.
The Vietnamese team opened the scoring in the 24th minute, putting them in control of the tie. They also missed several opportunities to score more goals in the first half.
The second half saw Vietnamese forward Van Quy score two spectacular goals to increase his team’s lead.
With the Philippines’ U15 team staring at defeat, Nunez scored a last minute consolation goal for his side to make the final score 3-1 in favour of Vietnam.
The result has helped to give Vietnam a chance to make the competition’s semifinals along with Indonesia and Timor Leste.
Vietnam’s U15 squad will next play Singapore on July 31.
