WHO views implementation of universal healthcare in private Thai hospitals

A World Health Organization (WHO) delegation, led by its Deputy Director General of Programs, has visited private hospitals in Bangkok which are implementing universal healthcare, looking to create a model for use in other countries.

The WHO delegation visited Mongkutwattana Hospital on Chaengwattana road to study Thailand’s approaches to universal healthcare and public health with a focus on implementation in the private sector.

Mongkutwattana Hospital cares for both in and out patients in accordance with the nation’s universal healthcare regulations and has clear zones for treatment as well as health promotion activities, events to promote health and vaccine awareness and mobile units. 

 WHO Deputy Director General, Soumya Swaminathan, explained that her delegation’s intention was to exchange views and experience with healthcare agencies and that the information collected will inform world leaders when they draft policies on non-communicable diseases. 

 She stated the WHO is ready to support research and analysis that will benefit healthcare in Thailand and developments that will have a positive impact on the world.
