VNMAC holds ground breaking ceremony

(VOV) - The Vietnam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC) on April 27 broke ground on a major VND415 billion centre at the Thach Hoa commune in the Thach That district of Hanoi.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai officially kicked off the start of construction of the 52,400 square metre centre with the symbolic first shovel of earth.

“The benefits this centre will bring to communities across Vietnam in clearing heavily contaminated areas of bombs, mines and other unexploded ordnances (UXO) are immeasurable,” said Deputy PM Hai.

He thanked representatives from the RoK, US, Hungary and other international organizations attending the event for their continued support of VNMAC in the aftermath of the war.

The new centre, which is being funded in part with Official Development Assistance (ODA) of VND213 billion from the Republic of Korea, will comprise a mine museum, dormitory and laboratories and will be operational in 2018.
