With Vietnamese students increasingly looking to study in the RoK, the trend is predicted to continue due to the increasing number of Korean businesses investing nationally, the popularity of Korean dramas and K-pop music among young people, in addition to the success of national team coach Park Hang-seo.

Over 160,165 foreign students are currently studying in higher education programs throughout the RoK, an annual increase of 17,960 students or 12.6 per cent over last year. Of the figure, the number of Vietnamese students accounted for 23.4 per cent, a 14-fold increase compared to 2009.

Despite accounting for the majority of foreign students in the RoK, the number of Chinese students suffered a 3.9 per cent drop to 71,067 in comparison to last year’s figure of 48.2 per cent.
