Vietnamese men face 25 years in prison for organising illegal entry

VOV.VN -The People's Court of Quang Ninh province opened a mobile trial on August 4 for a case involving Vietnamese citizens helping people to enter the country illegally.

According to the case file, the ring leader of the group was a 23-year-old resident of Hai Son commune in Mong Cai city. He had been co-operating with five other individuals in an attempt to smuggle foreign nationals across the border and enter the country illegally.

Most notably, the group had illegally managed to bring 12 Chinese citizens into the nation between June 9 and June 10 before being arrested by border guards operating in Quang Ninh province. Each individual seeking to illegally cross the border was forced to pay a fee of VND13 million to the gang.

The agency investigating the case confirmed that the six defendants, who are all residents of Quang Ninh province.

Once in court, the group admitted to contacting clients and arranging their illegal passage into Mong Cai city.

According to relevant agencies, illegal immigrants utilised styrofoam rafts in order to cross the border via a river, before the six Vietnamese suspects brought them to Mong Cai by motor vehicle.
