The event in Moc Chau district of Son La was attended by Lt. Gen. Tran Van Ve – Deputy Director General of the General Department of Police under Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, his Lao counterpart Col. Kham Hungseng Pasot, along with officials of Son La and the countries’ relevant agencies.
On November 5, 2015, the police general departments of Vietnam and Laos signed a document on measures to solve the complex situation of drug crimes along the Son La-Houaphan border.
Since then, they have worked to carry out the agreement, focusing on communication activities, prevention measures, and cracking down on transnational drug rings.
They have uncovered more than 2,600 cases involving 5,500 traffickers and seized nearly 130kg of heroin, 64kg of opium, and nearly 300,000 synthetic drug pills.
Relevant forces of Vietnam and Laos agreed to continue close cooperation to fight drug crimes, especially cross-border drug trafficking rings, thereby contributing to the overall relations of the two countries.
