Both COVID-19 patients are aged over 80, with one living in Quang Nam province and the other in Quang Ngai province.
The Quang Nam resident, 83, who suffered from heart and marrow failure, tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on August 2.
She was transferred to central Hue hospital in Thua Thien Hue province where she was also diagnosed with pneumonia due to COVID-19 complications.
On August 8, the patient experienced shortness of breath and relied on mechanical ventilation. Four days later, she displayed vasomotor disorder and died shortly afterwards.
Meanwhile, the other male patient of Quang Ngai province suffered from hypertension, diabetes (type II), heart attack, and atherosclerosis.
The 87-year-old man was admitted to Da Nang hospital on July 17 to treat wound infection on his left foot. Ten days later he tested positive for the virus.
The patient was transferred to Hoa Vang field hospital in Da Nang for treatment on July 31. Getting worse, he was in need of mechanical ventilation and continuous dialysis. The man died on August 12.
Both cases brought the total number of coronavirus death toll in Vietnam to 20. Most of the fatalities suffered from underlying illnesses and they have all been registered since the latest outbreak started in Da Nang just more than two weeks ago.
