Vietnam marks 20 years of Internet

VOV.VN - Internet Day 2017, themed “Digital movement”, was held in Hanoi on November 22 marking 20 years of the internet in Vietnam, which has transformed all social aspects and boosted the country's international integration.

Vietnam now has approximately 50 million Internet users, around 50% of the population, which is higher than the global average of 45%. Vietnam is forecast to be one of the top countries of mobile phone users in 2020.

In his remarks, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan said it’s a favorable foundation for Vietnam to promote an online ecosystem, adding that the country will continue to support businesses in entering the 4th industrial revolution.

“I believe that with its telecommunication and IT infrastructure, and abundant human resources in the ICT sector, Vietnam can live up to expectations. The Ministry of Information and Communications pledges to accompany IT, telecommunications, digital content, and Internet application businesses towards a fair and sustainable digital market. We aim to have more Vietnamese businesses achieve success abroad and mark Vietnam’s position on the global technology map," he said.

Vietnam Internet Association, the organizer of the event, also launched a “Chat bot 2017” contest for startups and young programmers.
