Truong Sa islanders receive Tet gifts

Representatives of commercial banks based in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa arrived in the island district of Truong Sa on January 10 to present their lunar New Year (Tet) gifts to officials, people and soldiers stationed on the islands.

The gifts included cookies, sugar, milk, wine, beer, tea and seasoning glutamate, worth more than VND30 million.

The provincial People’s Committee has called on agencies and organisations in Khanh Hoa to donate commodities and money to Truong Sa islanders. Gifts will be shipped to Truong Sa in mid January.

The committee has also decided to earmark VND200 million from its budget to purchase Tet gifts to the islanders.

The Lunar New Year (Tet) festival will fall on February 14.
