Tropical depression in East Sea likely to strengthen into a typhoon

VOV.VN - A tropical low pressure in the East Sea is likely to develop into a typhoon with complicated developments, potentially affecting the north and north-central regions on July 3-4, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The centre of the tropical depression was positioned at approximately 17.8 degrees north and 113.5 degrees east in the coastal waters of Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago at 7am on July 1.

Over the course of the next 24 hours, the tropical low pressure is expected to slowly head north west-west at a speed of 5 to 10km per hour with strongest winds close to the eye of the system reaching between 40 and 60km per hour.

Further still during the course of the next 48 hours, the tropical depression is expected to move north west-west at a speed of some 13km per hour and is likely to strengthen further..

According to forecasters, with  complicated developments, the tropical low pressure willl grow into a typhoon and move towards the mainland, directly affecting the north and north-central regions of the nation on July 3-4.

Furthermore, due to the impact of the south-west monsoon, showers and thunderstorms will occur in coastal areas from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang, and across the Gulf of Thailand and the East Sea area. This will include the coastal waters of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes.
