Population to be controlled at 93 million in 2015

Vietnam aims to reduce its birth rate from 2.0 percent in 2010 to 1.9 percent by 2015, according to the national target program on population and family planning.

Under the program for the 2012-2015 period, which has been approved by the Prime Minister, the country’s total population will be controlled at 93 million in the next three years, with population growth of around 1 percent by 2015.

By mid-21st century, Vietnam’s population is expected to be stabilized at 115-120 million.

The program focuses on coastal and island areas, aiming to successfully implement the national program and achieve the set targets for Vietnam’s sea and island strategy until 2020.
