According to the Quang Ninh provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the accident occurred at 10pm on June 6 at a mine operated by Duong Huy Coal Company under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group. The victim was identified as Ha Van Nhan, 33, a worker from Son Dong district of Bac Giang province.
Nguyen Hoai Son, director of the Quang Ninh provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, says according to initial reports, the mine shaft collapsed and buried Nhan.
After receiving the information, rescue forces arrived at the scene and recovered the body of the victim after two hours of digging.
The Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee asked functional units to investigate the cause of the accident and provided VND6 million to the family of the victim on June 7.
The Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group also gave the victim’s family a VND120 million compensation package.
