Although the blaze completely destroyed 5 houses, no casualties were reported at the scene.
According to initial information, the blaze started in the house of Nguyen Van Hoang, who works as a fruit vendor in the local Cai Rang floating market.
Upon noticing the fury of the fire, local people immediately tried to put out the fire themselves and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses.
Despite the best efforts of local people, the blaze increased due to strong winds and rapidly destroyed 5 houses and a boat, sending huge plumes of black smoke billowing into the air. Another nearby house also suffered some damage.
After the alarm was raised, fire fighters and five fire engines were mobilized to the scene to tackle the blaze. It took a half an hour for fire crews to bring the inferno under control. The fire caused severe traffic congestion as many local people and passers by crowded in to view the incident.
According to Tran Van Tam, the Chairman of Le Binh ward’s People Committee, the local authorities will present VND17 million to affected households and call for support from philanthropists to donate daily necessities to the victims.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
