|Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Nguyen Thi Ha meets with participants during the sixth national children’s forum.
Those participating were from the SOS children’s village, disabled rehabilitation centres, children councils from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, and Binh Dinh, along with schools nationwide.
Upon addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Nguyen Thi Ha, said the forum provides an opportunity for children to share and discuss issues relating to child protection and care.
The event also allows policymakers to gain a better understanding of the feelings, thoughts, and aspirations of Vietnamese children, therefore creating a suitable national action programme for children, she added.
The three-day forum will see children discuss key topics regarding violence against children, sexual abuse, drowning, injury prevention, and abuse online.
They will be given a direct dialogue with representatives from different state agencies and organisations on issues of their choosing on August 17. The children’s messages are to be passed onto the relevant agencies, social organisations, policymakers, and child activists.
It gives the chance for children’s voices to be heard by authorities who can in turn make policies more effective. The first biennial forum was held in Hanoi in 2009.
