More than 340 Vietnamese stranded in Singapore due to COVID-19 repatriated

VOV.VN - A Vietnam Airlines flight carrying more than 340 Vietnamese citizens left stranded in Singapore due to the novel coronavirus landed safely at Can Tho International Airport on May 31.

Vietnam Airlines has been assigned by the Prime Minister to arrange repatriation flights to bring home Vietnamese citizens stranded overseas due to COVID-19
On board the plane were adolescents, elderly people, people with underlying illnesses, guestworkers whose labour contracts had expired, and people who were on business or holiday with expired visas.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore sent officials and staff to the airport to assist Vietnamese citizens with necessary procedures before their departure.

Upon arrival, all crew members and passengers underwent medical checkups and were transferred to concentrated quarantine camps according to regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control.

In line with the Prime Minister’s instructions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked closely with the Ministry of Transport, relevant Vietnamese agencies, and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to arrange flights to bring home Vietnamese nationals stranded in foreign countries due to COVID-19.

More such flights will be conducted in the time to come, based on developments of the coronavirus pandemic in Vietnam and the world, desires of Vietnamese citizens living abroad, and the quarantine capacity in localities in Vietnam.
