The donation had been given by the Vietnamese Government and had been sent to the Mediterranean island via the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese with the aim of helping Vietnamese expats living in the Republic of Cyprus to overcome challenges caused by the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.
During the hand-over ceremony, Honorary Consul Georges Christophides praised the Vietnamese success in fighting the COVID-19 and the implementation of a number of prevention and control activities which have served to elevate the country’s status among the international arena.
In response, Nguyen Duc Manh, a representative of the Vietnamese community in Cyprus, also expressed his profound gratitude to the Vietnamese Government's considerable interest in the overseas community based in Cyprus.
He spoke highly of activities launched by the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy and the Republic of Cyprus, especially in terms of providing regular updated information and stepping up citizen protection measures during the peak of the epidemic as a way of upholding the spirit of solidarity whilst sharing the challenges alongside Vietnamese expats.
To mark the occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Thi Bich Hue sent a letter to the Honorary Consul and the Vietnamese community in Cyprus, outlining how the country’s success in containing the COVID-19 epidemic which has earned international plaudits.
The Vietnamese diplomat also underscored the importance of the Vietnamese Party and State’s support for overseas Vietnamese community members as they face up to the severe consequences of the epidemic.
Ambassador Hue also singled the Vietnamese community in Cyprus out for praise due to their great efforts in overcoming the challenging period, obeying regulations set by the host country to protect themselves and the community, while simultaneously heightening solidarity, patriotism, and mutual support among Vietnamese people.
