Land Transport Dept prepares vehicles for Loy Krathong travelers

The Director-General of the Thai Department of Land Transport has ordered transport service providers to stringently perform check-ups on their vehicles to ensure the safety of travelers during the Loy Krathong Festival.

Department of Land Transport Director-General Sanit Phromwong has firmly asserted that provincial transport offices must coordinate with transport service providers to make sure there are sufficient vehicles to meet public demand both for citizens traveling to pay their final respects to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and those observing Loy Krathong.

He affirmed all vehicles must be checked-up and drivers must conform to safety regulations, which include breaking for 30 minutes after 4 hours of work.

The department has clarified that vehicles not normally providing public transport being brought in to accommodate higher demand must first receive approval. It has stated that any violations of driving regulations will be severely dealt with.
