Also present at the dialogue were Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC's Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, and 600 delegates including leaders of ministries sectors, 63 provincial and municipal peasant associations, experts, scientists, and businesses.
The talks excellent gave a chance to farmers to raise important issues with the Government leader on topics such as seeking outlets for agricultural products, restructuring agriculture, managing food hygiene and safety, the quality of agricultural materials, and capital and agricultural land in order to help them overcome difficulties and increase the motivation for the stronger agricultural development.
Around 1,000 questions regarding the above mentioned issues were sent to the Prime Minister by farmers and concerned people across the country. Agriculture has been developing steadily in recent years, as evidenced through its impressive growth figures.
Agroforestry and seafood exports hit a record high of more than US$36 billion while the trade surplus swelled to more than US$8.5 billion last year. The sector is aiming to reach US$40 billion in export value this year.
The driving force behind Vietnam developing into one of the world’s leading exporters of agricultural product has been identified as the industry and creativity of the 11 million farmer households with 24 direct labourers who are the backbone of agriculture in the country.
Prior to the dialogue, PM Phuc visited a farm produce processing and production model of Hung Viet Ltd Company in Gia Loc district, Hai Duong province and presented gifts to families of social policy beneficiaries.
