The detection of the outbreaks marks the second time a locality in the Mekong Delta region has been affected by the ASF virus.
Previous reports in the province indicated two outbreaks of ASF which affected a total of 68 pigs in two households in the communes of Nhon Nghia A and Vinh Tuong.
Immediately after receiving reports of ASF, local authorities took drastic measures to prevent the disease from spreading further. All of the infected pigs were culled while disinfectants were sprayed throughout the contaminated pig farm. A total of 225 infected pigs were culled.
With the aim of guarding against further outbreaks, two quarantine checkpoints have been set up at National Highway 61C and Bon Tong-Mot Ngan road in order to monitor the transportation of pigs and pork products.
Neighbouring areas have also been tightening their control of border gates, trading areas, and slaughter houses, in a bid to prevent the further spread of the epidemic.
Police in Dong Thap have also instructed functional agencies to take action when dealing with animal trading and illegal smuggling activities.
