Former US first lady pays visit to high school in Vietnam

VOV.VN - On December 9, Michelle Obama, the former first lady of the United States, held exchanges alongside former members of a program aimed at supporting adolescent girls through the Girls Opportunity Alliance (GOA), a program that seeks to empower girls and their respective communities through education.

Michelle Obama was joined by US actress Julia Roberts, Vietnamese actress Ngo Thanh Van, Vietnamese American actress Lana Condor, YouTuber Liza Koshy, and MC Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of former US President George W. Bush, on a visit to Can Giuoc High School in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on December 9.

Throughout the event, Michelle Obama and her entourage held exchanges with former members of the program which aims to support the education of adolescent girls through the GOA fund under the Obama Foundation.

During the occasion, former first lady Obama expressed her pleasure at visiting Vietnam and having the opportunity to meet former program members who had been able to achieve great success in their life after overcoming many obstacles.

She expressed her desire to see donations improve the overall program to provide greater support to adolescent girls, before adding that she hoped artists would inspire them.

After the visit to Vietnam, former US President Obama will join his wife in Malaysia as the pair attend the event for Asia-Pacific Leaders in Kuala Lumpur. Here, she is expected to share her recent experience from her visit to Vietnam, as well as the importance of educating adolescent girls globally.
