Forecasters warn of landslides and severe flooding in south central localities

VOV.VN - The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning of landslides and severe flooding in the south-central provinces of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa due to torrential rain that has hit the provinces over the last day.

On the night of December 31, heavy downpours broke out in several places across Khanh Hoa province with rainfall measured at 57mm in Suoi Sung, 48mm in Dap Kieu, 31mm in Da Trai and 50.6mm at the commune of the People’s Committee of Song Hinh.

During the next 1 to 3 hours, rain will continue to pour in these areas with rainfall measured at between 30mm and 40mm with some places even seeing up to 60mm of rainfall.

Forecasters believe there will be high risks of landslides in mountainous areas and severe risk of flooding in lowland and urban areas during the next 3 to 6 hours. Such risks should be expected in Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces, particularly in Song Hinh district in Phu Yen as well as Van Ninh district in Khanh Hoa.
