According to the Police Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue, there were also 24 explosions, taking the lives of five people, injuring 24 others and causing losses of VND 388 million.
In the 9 month period, fire police conducted 2,897 rescues, including 2,179 during fires. They heroically saved 452 people whilst guiding thousands of people to safety away from any danger. These efforts are truly admirable.
In general, the number of fires, fatalities and property losses declined compared to the same period last year, which shows fantastic progress made by the fire prevention and rescue forces.
Fires occurring at private houses made up 43.8% of the total fires. The main causes of fires were short circuits (more than 50%) and carelessness by users (more than 30%).
Major fires mainly broke out at industrial zones, foreign direct investment businesses and production units with flammable materials such as garments, packaging, wood processing, supermarkets and warehouses.
In addition, many organizations, enterprises, apartments and residential areas failed to meet fire safety standards.
