He noted this is the first time the national broadcaster has hosted a seminar demonstrating the advanced DAB+ digital radio transmission technology.

Hai admitted a complete upgrade to digital radio would necessitate overcoming challenges relating to insufficient infrastructure, economic shortages, and an undersupply of technicians, especially in remote areas.

The nearly 100 Vietnamese and international delegates attending the seminar shared experiences and contributed suggestions to Vietnam’s radio digitalisation roadmap towards 2020.

They cited Vietnam as one of Southeast Asia’s leaders in embracing digital broadcasting advances, acknowledging broadcasters’ successful completion of DRM and HD Radio trials in 2005 and 2009.

With DAB+, listeners will have access to MPEG-4 quality streams and receivers can display text documents and images.

World DMB Asia-Pacific CEO Joan Warner delivered a presentation on the DAB+, helping local broadcasters select the most appropriate digital broadcasting technologies available.
