Pham Nguyen Chien, head of Viet Nam Railways Corporation’s (VNR) railway safety and security department, said the incident occurred at 8am on February 19, resulting in a carriage lying across a railway track.
Mr Chien emphasised that VNR are currently hard at work to best deal with the incident and get operations resuming as soon as possible on the north-south railway.
VNR has urgently mobilised the necessary parties to solve the issue, with vehicles and rescue equipment sent to the scene to deal with the aftermath of the accident. Cranes have also been used to clear the wreckage of the carriage from the railway, noted Mr Chien.
VNR leaders have pointed out that a series of recent derailment incidents can be attributed to poor railway infrastructure.
