Defense Ministry helps Laos combat COVID-19 epidemic

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Ministry of Defense sent a number of experts to Laos on April 7, in addition to providing medical equipment worth over VND3 billion, to help the neighbouring Southeast Asian nation in their battle against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Vietnam’s Ministry of Defense gives support to Laos by sending experts and providing medical equipment at a ceremony held at the Cau Treo border gate in Ha Tinh province on April 7.

During a ceremony held at the Cau Treo border gate in the central province of Ha Tinh, Major General Nguyen Hung Thang handed over a large quantity of medical equipment to his Laotian counterpart, Major General Volasan Viladavong.

The haul of supplies included 100,000 cloth face masks, 30,000 medical face masks, 2,000 pieces of protective clothing, 5,000 bottles of dry antiseptic solution, and 500kg of chlorine for disinfection.

Most of the provided equipment are made-in-Vietnam products which are currently in high demand throughout the country.

Major General Thang stated that the Vietnam People’s Army is ready to provide help to their partners in Laos and share their experience in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic.

Immediately after the ceremony, Major General Thang led a Vietnamese delegation made up of nine members to the Laotian capital of Vientiane in order to work with the steering committee of Laos’ Ministry of Defense and the Laotian government on steps which can combat the spread of the virus.
