The Da Nang Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, in collaboration with the Da Nang Department of Tourism and relevant agencies, took the visitors’ samples for COVID-19 testing. Test results will be available for collection on August 10.
As Da Nang city, a famous tourist destination in central Vietnam, has become the epicenter of the fresh coronavirus outbreak, HCM City requested Da Nang to test all 734 visitors before they leave.
The past few days have seen many of the Da Nang returnees test positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease. Since the resurgence of the outbreak in Da Nang in late July, HCM City has now reported 8 new cases closely linked to Da Nang hotspot.
Currently, 1,695 visitors remain stranded in Da Nang city. Alongside 734 travellers registering to return to HCM City, 961 other are expected to fly to Hanoi in the coming days.
The Prime Minister has green-lighted the Ministry of Transport to devise plans to evacuate the stranded visitors by air. The Ministry of Transport later asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to arrange domestic flights to bring the tourists home.
