The city’s Confederation of Labour granted scholarships for 77 students with excellent achievements at municipal and national contests and 135 others who are in need but have good academic performance.
Vice Chairman of the confederation Tran Vu Duy Man praised the students’ achievements and called on them to continue making efforts in their study and self-improvement.
He added that to mark the Action Month for Children in June and 17 years of the Vietnamese Family Day (June 28, 2001), trade unions at all levels in Da Nang have organised many practical activities, including visiting and presenting gifts to children with disadvantages and orphans, and granting scholarships for outstanding students.
This year’s Action Month for Children is themed “For children’s safe and healthy living”. It is set to promote the children’s rights to protection, respect and living in a safe and healthy environment in the digital era.
During the month, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has held a series of events and activities to support children in need. It has organised children’s forums at different levels and entertainment activities, given free medical checkup to children, and provided those in need with scholarships and deformity correction surgeries.
Meanwhile, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children is set to allocate more than VND14 billion (US$616,000) for activities to support about 5,000 children from difficult backgrounds across the country.
The action month aims to raise public awareness of a wide range of child-related issues through a number of messages, including For children’s safe and healthy living, Safe and healthy summer for children, Summer without child drowning, Listen to children with heart, protect children with actions, Calling 111 to report any acts of violence against children and child abuse, Using social media for the safe and healthy life of children and more.
