At the ceremony, the delegation paid homage to Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who fell down in Cambodia during the wartime while realizing their international mission.
Dozens of thousands Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts died in Cambodia, and the remains of many martyrs have not been found. The Vietnamese and Cambodian Governments have worked hard together towards the target of completing the search and repatriation of the martyrs’ remains to their homeland in 2020.
According to the Steering Committee 515 under Military Zone 9, over the years, in Kampong Chhnang province alone, Team K90 found remains of 22 martyrs in the 2018-2019 dry season, raising the total gathered in the locality since the 2001-2002 to 345.
The Vietnam Invalids and Martyrs Day, started in 1947, is a special chance for the entire country to commemorate millions of martyrs and war invalids who sacrificed their lives and health during the wars, as well as an opportunity to call on the entire community to support war invalids and martyrs’ families in acknowledgement of their contributions to the nation.
