Upon a local resident in Thon Dong hamlet, Dong Linh commune, detecting four pigs showing symptoms of sickness, the provincial veterinary department took samples from the pig farm with test results coming back as positive for the ASF virus.
The relevant units have culled the four infected pigs and notified residents throughout the commune about the incident. As a response, they sprayed disinfectant and lime powder on pig farms in the area whilst also setting up quarantine stations to strictly monitor the transportation of pigs and pork products through the region.
Furthermore, in Kieu Dai street, Dong Ve ward, Thanh Hoa city, a pig was reported to have died abnormally. As a result, samples were taken from the pig farm for further testing.
A total of 23 days since the first outbreaks of ASF were detected in Thanh Hoa, the ASF has been discovered in 28 households across 17 hamlets and 15 communes in the districts of Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa as well as in the city of Thanh Hoa. Local authorities have requested the cull of 1,230 pigs weighing a total of 62,829 kilos.
Overall, 171 quarantine stations and 11 inspection teams have been set up across 27 districts and commune in the city to closely monitor the transportation of pigs and pork products through the region to prevent the epidemic spreading further.
