At a ceremony in Washington DC on December 5 to present his credentials to the US Department of State, Ambassador Vinh said over the past year significant progress has been made in elevating the partnership.
A 123 agreement on nuclear cooperation with Vietnam has been negotiated, the US has lifted the ban on lethal weapon sales to Vietnam and notable progress has made in negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, Vinh said.
The two countries have great potential for further broadening cooperative relations in nine key areas ranging from economics, politics, defence, security, science and education to people-to-people exchange.
The Ambassador emphasized the two countries would mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year with a wide range of activities and promised to work diligently to enhance cooperation between the US and ASEAN.
Deputy Secretary of State Heather Higginbottom spoke highly of fine development of bilateral relations in recent times and assuredly stated the US wants to further boost the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam.
Higginbottom also affirmed the Department of State would fully support the newly appointed Ambassador in performing his duties.
