Vietnamese, Lao armies boost cooperation

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Xuan Lich, head of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army, held talks with Acting Director of the Lao People’s Army’s General Department of Politics Major General Vilay Lakhamphong in the central city of Danang on August 12.

Lich highly valued the results of bilateral defence cooperation, with all contents of the joint partnership plan being successfully completed.

The two sides have coordinated closely in popularising major events in both countries, while promoting mutual support, he noted.

He proposed that in the future the two sides increase activities to raise public awareness of the significance of promoting the special ties between the two countries and armies.

At the same time, the two sides should work closely together to defeat all schemes of hostile forces that aim to undermine the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, he said.

They should closely coordinate in organising joint activities such as a ceremony marking the 37th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Agreement, he added.

Lich also expressed hope that the Lao side will create favourable conditions for Vietnam to search and repatriate remains of its volunteer soldiers fallen in Laos.

For his part, Vilay Lakhamphong expressed his delight at the effective and comprehensive cooperation between the two sides, especially in Party and political work.

Earlier the same day, the Lao delegation visited Danang city’s Military Headquarters, Air Division 372 and the A32 aircraft repair factory.

During his stay in Vietnam till August 15, the delegation is scheduled to visit a number of famous sites in Danang and Thua Thien-Hue province.
