At the ministry’s regular press conference in Hanoi on May 28, the spokesperson answered reporters’ questions about China’s recent announcement of using new technology in vegetable cultivation on Phu Lam island of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago.

"Vietnam has repeatedly affirmed its sufficient historical evidence and legal grounds proving its indisputable sovereignty over Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos in line with international law," the spokesperson said.

Earlier, the Global Times of China reported on May 19 that Chinese soldiers illegally stationed on Phu Lam Island in the Paracel Islands of Vietnam have harvested more than 750kg of green vegetables thanks to the technology that helps grow vegetables in sand.

Regarding the Vietnam – US comprehensive partnership at the press briefing the same day, the official said the partnership has been growing steadily in multiple fields, including national defence-security.

Based on agreements reached by the two sides, including the 2011 Memorandum of Understanding for Advancing Bilateral Defence Cooperation, the 2015 Joint Vision Statement on Defence Relations and the Plan of Action for Defence Cooperation for 2018 – 2020, both nations are propelling bilateral defence ties forwards, including in maritime security and improvement of legal enforcement capacity at sea as a contribution to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, Viet said.
