Vietnam treasures ties with International Military Sports Council

VOV.VN -Vietnam attributes great importance to fostering ties with the International Military Sports Council (CISM), said Vice Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Nguyen Tan Cuong at a reception in Ho Chi Minh City on April 24 for Col. Herve Piccirillo, President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).

At the reception for the CISM President, currently on a visit to Vietnam for the 74th CISM General Assembly, Cuong praised the CISM’s role in boosting friendship among countries’ armies via sports while saying that as an active and responsible member of the CISM, the Vietnamese army is ready to participate in sport activities held by the CISM with the dispatch of a delegation to the upcoming Summer Games in China.

Vietnam consistently pursues the external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of ties, active and proactive global integration, he said, adding that the country desires to present itself as a country of peace and friendship to the CISM and its members through the event, as well as introduce its history, culture and people to international friends.

The Vietnam Defence Ministry will provide all possible support to make the event a great success.

Piccirillo, in turn, expressed thanks to Vietnam’s careful preparations for the CISM’s important event whilst saying he is impressed by the Vietnamese people during his first visit two decades ago.

The official said since Vietnam joined the CISM, its army has taken an active part in sport activities held by the council, proving its rising stature in the region and the wider world.
It will be the first time a CISM meeting attracts 91 countries and three observers, a record number, he noted.

He said hopes that with thorough preparations, the 74th CISM General Assembly will contribute to strengthening friendship and solidarity among member states via sports.
