Vietnam, Thailand boost air defence cooperation

VOV.VN - Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence hosted a reception for Commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Chaiyapruk Didyasarin, in Hanoi on November 16.

Defence cooperation between the two countries over the past years has grown soundly with practical outcomes, especially in delegation exchange, personnel training, air and naval defence cooperation.

The close defence partnership has helped strengthen the friendship, and deepen mutual understanding and trust between the people and armies of the two countries, he noted.

He also hailed the cooperation results between Vietnam’s Air Force-Air Defence and the Royal Thai Air Force, while hoping that the two forces will continue to enhance their collaboration.

He affirmed Vietnam's support for Thailand in performing the role of ASEAN Chair in 2019 and expects to receive support from Thailand in 2020 when Vietnam assumes the same role.

In reply, Chaiyapruk said that the aim of his working visit is to further step up cooperation between the air forces of Thailand and Vietnam.

He also highlighted the increased cooperation between Vietnam’s Air Force-Air Defence and the Royal Thai Air Force , especially through the exchange of experiences in aviation safety, rescue, training, and connectivity among young officers.

The cooperative relations between the two armies have also contributed to consolidating the ASEAN Political-Security Community, one of the three key pillars of the ASEAN Community, said Chaiyapruk
