Vietnam represented at 23rd Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs Conference

VOV.VN - Lieut. Gen. Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, was in attendance at the 23rd Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs Conference (IPACC), which took place virtually on August 25.

First launched by the United States, the annual conference aims to reinforce friendship ties and mutual understanding between the armies of regional countries.

This year’s IPACC event brought together representatives from 29 countries, with a specific focus on the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic and transnational health scares that could threaten the security of a nation state.

Furthermore, the significance and impact of 5G mobile technology on national security, and the role of multilateralism in terms of promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region was also mentioned during the course of the occasion.

Lieut. Gen. Vinh’s presence at the event greatly contributed to implementing the Vietnamese Party and State’s foreign policy of diversification and multilateralisation, whilst also demonstrating the nation’s role and responsibility in common regional issues. In addition, it will also serve to enhance its role as ASEAN Chair in 2020 for peace, stability, and development in the region and in the wider world.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Vietnamese Deputy Chief also hosted a reception for US Defence Attaché in Vietnam Colonel Thomas Stevenson.
